Even when you plan and plan, and you take the steps you know to be true, your body can defeat you. Ah yes, I know it’s cryptic. There is something I yearn to do and I’m working on it—but my body may have other plans.
Yes, I am looking into building a small house - one that is the right size for me plus one. I’d also like my utilities to approximate what they were in Portland (July - Dec 2010) … What I saw made me really rethink GVEA/GHU… and my use. Sure things cost more in Alaska. That makes sense. Right?
Not if I reconsider size and purpose.
Now, can I have a full tub, a fireplace and stay warm? … What will the arctic entry or mud room look like when you’re talking small? BTW - I was thinking 600-700 sq ft. Now I’m thinking that I should check building codes for minimums… maybe 400 will work? The Tumbleweed drawings show two great places at less than 500 sq foot.
A human being should be able to change a diaper, plan an invasion, butcher a hog, conn a ship, design a building, write a sonnet, balance accounts, build a wall, set a bone, comfort the dying, take orders, give orders, cooperate, act alone, solve equations, analyze a new problem, pitch manure, program a computer, cook a tasty meal, fight efficiently, die gallantly.
Specialization is for insects.
”—Came across http://cpb.passiontask.com/ "–found in Time Enough for Love by Robert Heinlein" Specialization is for Insects (Robert Heinlein) … This morning this struck me as so true.
Can you believe it? Both of these words in one sentence (almost before 9am) from one participant in iTeach. What a blast! Still drinking from the fire hose. I love being here. What I do not love is my upstairs neighbor’s teenage son playing video games at 11pm at night when I have to be at work at 7:15am. Yup. I said it.
Must be about every 6th or 7th Monday that I need to have a slow start to my week. This is the day! I’m so run down and tired. Not a good start to iTeach! I must get awake and going—because iTeach happens at break-neck speed. Learn more at iteach.community.uaf.edu
You can’t unwatch it. (Futurama) Right! And banging your head against the wall until you forget it is not a great choice either. While I am not a big Futurama fan, I do know the wisdom to ‘be careful where you click.’ Time to get back to figuring out where/how/when and then sleep!
Okay, I’m awaiting another technician — no, not plumbers — for a different housing issue… and they were supposed to be here at 10a (this was a reschedule from yesterday.) I wanted to cancel, seeing as I’m still new to my job and would prefer to be *at work* during the day… Novel, I know. In any case, I didn’t cancel… but they told me they’d probably be here at 10:15a or maybe a bit after. I just got the call that they are leaving their last job and on the way (but they need to stop for gas.) Sigh… it just isn’t good to start off annoyed before the folks show up.
