That's no fun
Ooops! (scratch Alaska Best Plumbing & Heating) Bigfoot Pumping & Thawing: Great job! Mike was fabulous… unfortunately there wasn’t anything wrong with the sump pump. What’s that mean? Now I need a plumber to fix the trap/block/valve that’s under the bathroom sink. Bummer!

Calories and clothes and chocolate...
Does French Vanilla Coffee Mate counteract Chocolate tea? If it’s sugar free should I go and get a little Milky Way Dark to complete the chocolate (y) goodness? I’m tired of shopping for clothes at Fred Meyers - that’s why I went to Fireweed (NICE second hand store.) Soon I’ll go to Anchorage (course that is just to go… too.) However, I killed with three tops, one...

Reading
Just finished a book I’m pretty sure I read before by Mary Daheim: Silver Scream; this followed closely on the heels of a book I know I read before: Creeps Suzette. In between those two was a book I wasn’t sure about: Suture Self. The library didn’t have “A Streetcar Named Expire” on hand… Yes, I get on genre and author kicks. Right now it’s fluff...

Only what's already in there
Friday I was working on a new php script (actually cutting down and repurposing a script that was already in use.) I wanted to come up with a list of instructors and the classes they teach. Of course, making it more useful would be including a link for contact information (preferred contact) … However, the data is stored as “instructor” … hmmm First Last, not Last, First....

Still with the fire hose
Week three and the language that zips around here… Whoa! “interstices” - intervening spaces. I’m all for finding those. Granted I’ll probably fill them with yarn. If you are just tuning in, I have a new job with the Center for Distance Education. It is quite lovely to wonder, ‘how shall I do that?’ vs. ‘when will I get the time to do …?’...

Marketing bliss
My dreams last night included cosmetics. Truth! Smashbox should be proud (http://www.smashbox.com/) …This is new; normally product placement in my dreams involves yarn. I think it would have been better had they included crepes (http://www.yelp.com/biz/vivace-coffee-house-and-creperie-portland). If you’re looking for crepes, the best place I’ve had them in the past year was at...

"Yes We Can!" Food Drive
Tomorrow (Saturday, May 7th) from 4:30-7:30p KXLR & American Tire & Auto’s are having a HUGE TAILGATE PARTY at the Carlson Center parking lot (you’ll see the Food Bank truck etc.)  Four cans of food or a $10 donation to the Food Bank gets you: a mini cooler with four cans of soda (or 2 cans Rock Star) an entry into the $500 drawing from American TIre & Auto PLUS a...

Life is good
There could be more Scrabble in my life; but life is good.  I got great news at work today: a few projects AND a relatively clear idea of what to strive for in the next month(s). I like that. I also saw fabulous ideas on “gutter” planting and small space planting. Things that I think I can undertake even with my other projects. Tomorrow morning - Weigh in at Weight Watchers AND...

Sock summit
But of course! I have soooo much sock yarn that it makes sense to go to Sock Summit 2011 and use some of it up! Actually that makes me remember to contact my GIFT RECIPIENTS and confirm addresses so I can get a few gifts done and mailed off. These are the classes I signed up for: Mad For Plaid - Lorilee Beltman [ class description ] Autopilot Socks [non-wool friendly] - Amy Singer [ class...

Exercise
Stressed out for unknown (and known) reasons… reminded - EXERCISE! Going to do it in the morning… Patti and I are prepping for a 5K walk.

Scrabble goodies →
I really like this person’s website. Especially the list of 2 and 3 letter high point words… after that my favorite is the “proper names.” Imagine you can play AL and you can play GORE. This helps me remember “AL.” Check out the names page for yourself: http://www.trussel.com/scrabble/names.htm

Salt and nudists
And for the Scrabble lovers out there… TSUNAMI + R = natriums or naturism (both bingos). Yesterday there was a lot of discussion of storms and tornados (during lunch.) It made me think of Japan and no looting, and the South and looting. Not every thought leads to knitting or scrabble, but this one did. Here are a few more bingos you can make if you have tiles like TSUNAMI: +C =...

Asparagus not
My lunch, asparagus and zuchini (plus “Food Should Taste Good” multigrain chips). The asparagus was not happy about the reheating process. I should have ate it cold.

Interpretive reading
This evening at Sweet’s Pride Toastmasters (6pm) I will perform *ahem* two interpretive readings. One is by Jack London, it is a poem that is nestled within the chapters of “Iron Heel.” The other is “Mending Wall” by Robert Frost. Feel free to come and listen… I will deliver this 6-8 minute speech at the Fairbanks Resource Agency (kitty corner from Mary Siah.)

Damn gnomes
Gnomes got up at 2:30a (or was it 2:28a?) and proceeded to clean my whole apartment—ah, okay they didn’t do the toilet and they didn’t do the ‘bonus room.’ What’s up? They kept me awake until 4:30a … Too bad they didn’t do all my financial entries too. Course those sleepy gnomes might have miss-keyed. {Update: turns out that John—upstairs...
